In this section, we share a few stories about our clients and how our work has helped them. All names have been changed to protect confidentiality.
Tabitha is a 23 year old woman who was homeless and addicted to Percocet. She came in needing housing assistance, as she was living in her car at the time. She initially went to Dilma (a social worker at Father Tracy Advocacy Center) for the social services, but since she needed housing, Sasha from MC Collaborative helped her find housing through PCHO (Person Centered Housing Options). She was placed in housing and has her own apartment now, and has partial custody of her daughter again because of it. Tabitha worked with another non-NCP agency to get furniture, and they even furnished the child’s room.
Dan was in the Marines for 7 years prior to being homeless. Dan was unemployed and needed a job, and came to Father Tracy Advocacy Center (FTAC) to find work. FTAC made the referral to The People's Pantry, and Dan is currently working 15 hours a week at The People’s Pantry.
Grover, white and male, lived by himself. Grover originally came to Father Tracy Advocacy Center for help entering detox this past winter, and was also looking for work and housing. Father Tracy Advocacy Center, specifically the Workforce Development Coordinator and the social worker, helped him get into detox and he was given a job working at the St. Michael’s food pantry. MC Collaborative helped him get temporary housing
There was a woman who appeared on the first all-city walk who was saying nasty things to outreach volunteers, especially to SWAN. Since then, SWAN had a couple of interactions with her and her family, as they live in the area, and interacted with NCP members during a few pop-ups. Once the social worker at SWAN was hired, the woman learned about her services, and completely changed her perspective. She saw how genuine the work was and how consistent SWAN was. She also learned that the programs that SWAN offered wasn’t a one-time thing and that SWAN employees care about the community. Since then, she’s been getting assistance from the social worker and some of her family members have even graduated from the security workforce training program.
